Jake Landry and Annie Ford make up the
duo Slim Pickens. Annie Ford is native to northern Virginia and grew
up near the small town of Marshall in a log cabin in the woods. She
began playing the violin at age 11. After picking up a fiddle book
in Scotland, she fell in love with Scottish and Irish music. She
studied classically and continued to play fiddle tunes and improvise
throughout college. After moving to New Orleans, she played in
several bands and in several different styles including latin, gypsy
jazz, folk and Irish.

She then relocated to Manila, CA
and played with two more bands before meeting her current beau
and partner in crime Jake Landry. Jake grew up in southwestern
Louisiana.
He
started playing bass at 14 and then picked up the guitar when he was
16. He became disillusioned with modern music and began to go back
through the years to study the old-time music styles including
ragtime, blues and mountain music. After moving to Eureka CA Jake
became an extraordinary picker and began to develop a strong and
resonant voice. Meeting each other one night in early August, they
discovered they had a good sound together that had great potential.
Together they have studied the old-time musicians and the pickers
today who seek to preserve
this type of music. They have created a unique sound both
vocally and instrumentally. Jake’s deep voice mingles with
Annie’s to produce an authentic, true sound.
